Aluminium facts

A versatile material

Aluminium is used in everything from packaging and transport to buildings and advanced technologies.

Almost infinite lifespan

75% of all aluminium ever produced is still in use today.

It all starts with bauxite

Through refining into alumina and then electrolysis, primary aluminium is produced – the foundation of one of the world’s most versatile materials.

Only 5% energy required for recycling

Recycling aluminium requires only 5% of the energy needed for primary production.

Recipe for 1 kg of aluminium:

1,9 kilo aluminiumoxid
13 kWh of electricity
400 grams of anodes

Aluminium compared with steel

Compared with steel, 200 kg of aluminium in a car can reduce emissions by up to 16 g of CO₂ per kilometre.

The Remelting Process – Recycling Aluminium with a Lower Climate Impact

The remelting process is an important part of our work to increase resource efficiency and reduce the overall climate impact of aluminium production.

Through remelting, aluminium scrap is recovered and melted down to be reused in new aluminium products, allowing valuable material to remain in circulation instead of being lost.

Compared with primary aluminium production, remelting requires significantly less energy and results in substantially lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Our remelting process is based primarily on internal production scrap and selected recycled aluminium streams, providing strong control over material quality and composition.

By returning this material to production, the need for virgin raw materials is reduced, while still meeting the high industrial customer requirements for performance and consistent quality.

The process contributes to stable operations, efficient resource use and reliable product quality.

Remelting aluminium requires only a fraction of the energy needed for primary production and is therefore a central part of a more sustainable and circular aluminium value chain.

As part of our long-term sustainability work, the remelting process complements primary production by reducing emissions, improving material utilisation and meeting customer demand for aluminium with a lower climate footprint.
